Biography
Quentin Goffette obtained his Master's degree in Art History and Archaeology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He participated in various excavations in Belgium and abroad (Cyprus, Syria, Italy, etc.). Since 2009, he has been working as an archaeozoologist at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (Brussels), in the framework of the scientific programme "Quaternary Humans and Environments". Since then, he has been involved in the study of faunal remains from the Sagalassos excavation (Turkey, Interuniversity Attraction Poles), from the Brussels-Capital Region and, since 2011, from the Walloon Region.
In parallel with the archaeozoological analyses that he is carrying out in the framework of a partnership with the Walloon Heritage Agency (AWaP), he has started a PhD at ULiège under the direction of Dr. Veerle Rots and Dr. Christine Lefèvre (MNHN), which aims to document the exploitation of birds in prehistoric times. To this end, he is analysing the bone remains of birds from Belgian Palaeolithic sites. In addition to identifying the taxa and skeletal elements present in the various deposits, he is looking for and describing the traces present on the surface of the bones in order to identify the agents responsible for the accumulation of the various assemblages. He has also conducted experiments involving the manipulation and cutting of bird carcasses with lithic tools at the TraceoLab, with the aim of better understanding the modalities of exploitation by man during the Palaeolithic.
